I’m very happy to announce that The cover of Mix Magazine‘s Mastering Issue, December 2009, features my Mastering room with an interview inside. The interview includes myself, Paul Stubblebine and Bob Hodas. We talk a bit about the room, the Speakers (Focal Grand Utopia EM’s), the Tape Project and of course Mastering..
Here is the article from the mixonline.com site
A gathering of SoundBlade users, Thor Legvold, Gavin Lurrsen, Michael Romanowski, and SoundBlade/Amarra owner Jon Reicbach
This AES 2009 panel was entitled ” Mastering in an Ever Expanding Universe (2009 and Beyond).” The panel consisted of Joe Palmacio, Gavin Lurssen, Vic Anesini, Andrew Mendleson, Mark Wilder and Michael Romanowski. We had a great discussion to a standing room only house. I really enjoyed these guys. Very talented, fun and engaging group. I was very proud to be a part of this group of passionate music lovers. These guys will be movers and shakers in the mastering world for many many years to come. I wish them all continued success.
>edfa very excited about being the new Chairman of the P&E Wing of the San Francisco Naras Chapter. It is a great honor to be a part of the team that helps shape and recognize the contributions and talents of the people behind the scenes in the music industry. For more information about what the wing does, check out the site at http://www.grammy.com/Recording_Academy/Producers_And_Engineers/
Technology and art are ever more entwined. I think we are in an exciting time and feel privileged to be a part of these changes.
If anyone is interested in being a part of the P&E wing, please contact me. Thanks.
I am happy to anounce that I have been re-elected to the San Francisco NARAS chapter Board of Governors for a second term. I look forward to continuing my service to the music scene in our region and being a part of the ever changing dynamic of the technical and artistic sides of music. Thanks.
Jose Segue interviewed me recently for his webzine ( http://www.hickswithsticks.com/) about the album from Misisipi Rider that I recorded/produced. We got to talking about a whole lot more that might show up as a part II somewhere down the road. Jose is a real fan of music and the people who create it. Thanks helping keep the scene alive Jose!
This is a Symposium that I am involved with, going on this weekend at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, about Hi resolution audio playback from computers. We all know the CD is dead ( or dying quickly ). We are no longer held back by Red Book Audio constraints. The purpose of this Symposium is to show all the aspects of playback for home music servers. There are some very talented and forward thinking folks involved with this. It’s going to be very cool indeed.
Here is a link tho the website

and the first paragraph…
Hope to see you there.
Computer Audiophile is (more…)
This is a long round table discussion, but I think very well worth the time. All of the folks here have very good ideas about sound and listening; the experience of what music can and does do to people when all of the elements are in place. Enjoy.
